The Nigro Firm's Review Team

Our team is dedicated, ambitious, and tenacious... not hesitating to review billion dollar plus projects such as huge resort buildings in Dubai and famous sports arenas.

When Natalie is asked about the qualities of her team, she says,

“We are happy, good-natured, and lively people that are curious about every aspect of construction documents. We are sociable and enjoy each other and the folks that use our services. We are brave enough to take on the task of proofreading construction documents and intelligent enough to know that mistakes are a part of life. We are a group of people that work together to help make the construction process a pleasant experience. We stay on target looking for errors between drawings and specs until we can track them down. We are diligent and work very hard to help point out anything which will make the construction documents and specifications confusing or unclear.”

We have a diversified group that comes to the table with different perspectives and backgrounds to bring depth to the review your projects. They are all genuinely committed to our Mission Statement.

KeenLook Reviewers

The following Nigro Firm team members have been instrumental in performing top-notch KeenLook reviews:

Pamela B. Calvo

Mrs. Calvo has been with the Nigro Firm since May 20, 2003 and has been a key player on a majority of the projects reviewed since then.

Mrs. Calvo is a licensed Master Electrician in the state of Utah. Her career, prior to joining the Nigro Firm, consisted of working for Willey Electric Inc., Disneyland, and University Hospital as an electrician or supervisor for electricians and plumbers. A detailed breakdown is as follows, listed in order of most current first:

University of Utah Hospital (2-1/2 years)

Mrs. Calvo went to work for one of Utah’s largest and most prestigious hospitals as a Construction Electrician. She was responsible for demolition in renovations/remodels and construction of new expansions with regards to electrical equipment. She assisted in the assessment of needs of the hospital for new construction and oversaw the implementation of the new electrical systems. After one year, her experience and value was recognized by a promotion to Maintenance and Staffing Supervisor for Electricians and Plumbers. Her previous business experience as President of her Corporation came into play when supervising budgets, staffing, plan checking, preventive maintenance, and safety.

Disneyland (10 years)

Nigro Firm: parade floatMrs. Calvo was a part of the huge staff at Disneyland who were responsible for the continued effectiveness of the parades in the park. She was responsible for maintaining, inspecting, repairing and installing batteries, lights, controls, and drive units for all parade floats and barges. She was also responsible for troubleshooting and performing preventative maintenance on electrical costumes, parade route lighting, parade float warehouse systems, and barge inlets. Due to the well known parades that Disney has in their parks, this placed an enormous demand on Ms. Calvo and her maintenance department. She was up to the challenge!

Willey Electric, Inc. (16 years)

Mrs. Calvo started her electrical career in the family business with her father who taught her the meaning of commitment to quality of work, attention to detail, and the understanding of reputation. She worked her way through the ranks, starting at the bottom, and achieved her Master Electrician License in 1985.

She accepted the challenges of running a successful business after the death of her father. The company specialized in commercial, residential, and industrial work for retail centers, office buildings, educational facilities, warehouses, and residential homes. The work included wiring, fixtures, panels, underground and overhead services, blueprint modifications, remodeling, intrusion systems, generators and transfer switches, and grounding systems. As President, she oversaw the additional duties of running a business such as bookkeeping, estimating and bidding projects, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, work site safety, and contractor communications.

Jonathan Medsker

Mr. Medsker has been with the Nigro Firm since September 2004 and has been a vital player on many of the Nigro Firm projects KeenLook reviewed since then. Mr. Medsker is a man of many talents and specializes in reviewing HVAC and Architectural disciplines for coordination discrepancies... his unique perspective fine-honed by his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Nigro Firm: Offroad jeepHe has over 20 years experience as an innovative leader in the design and building of Jeep parts. In general, whenever a new Jeep model comes out, there is a temporary “vacuum gap” for third-party accessories… and Mr. Medsker jumps in to design and build these items before the big companies can. Items such as suspension lift kits, winch mounts, specialty bumpers, quick release mirror mounting systems, and quick release steps. He has designed parts for Western Off-road Military Jeeps. And he has tested his designs and prototypes on rigorous off-road trails in Moab, UT and at the Rubicon… actually competing professionally.

Mr. Medsker has spent seven years rebuilding and customizing high-end Harley touring bikes (i.e., motorcycles). These precision machines are highly sought after and he delights in making them available to the public.

Mr. Medsker enjoys sitting down to work out some calculations just as much as he enjoys his time in the shop or on the trial getting his hands dirty.

Robert Hooper

The Nigro Firm found Mr. Hooper on October 11, 2004 and has been a key player on many projects reviewed. His Professional Engineering license (Utah, 1991) and Bachelor's of Science degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering, Utah State University, Logan, UT (1984) have given him an engineers perspective while performing coordination reviews.

Prior to joining the Nigro Firm Team, Mr. Hooper had over twenty-three years experience in Construction Management, Facilities Engineering and Structural Design. He has served as Project Engineer/Project Manager on many remodel and new construction projects. He has over 10 years experience in structural steel design, structural analysis of materials, and reinforced concrete design.

Nigro Firm: structural steelMr. Hooper spent 13 years with Autoliv, a well-known world leader in automotive safety which manufactures and sells state-of-the-art automotive safety systems. As a Senior Facilities Engineer, he managed construction projects, oversaw budgets and schedules, and inspected projects for quality of work and adherence to specifications. He prepared capital budget proposals/justifications and construction specifications for new construction and remodel efforts. He also provided in-house structural design services for new construction and renovations of buildings required for the processing and manufacturing of products, as well as the complex machinery involved in the recycling of airbag modules.

Mr. Hooper had the pleasure of working with Morton Thiokol Inc. which is one of the U.S. government’s largest contractors for rocket and missile propulsion systems. During his 8 years there, he managed construction of space shuttle component assembly buildings, shuttle motor manufacturing buildings, and hazardous waste sumps for pyrotechnic processing buildings.

Larry Hansen

Mr. Hansen and the Nigro Firm got together November 5, 2005... we've had the pleasure of his mechanical engineering mind set in performing construction document coordination reviews.

Nigro Firm: HVAC diagramAided by his Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, and Professional Engineering license (Idaho, 1971), Mr. Hansen has over 16 years experience working for consulting engineers, four years taking off and bidding mechanical projects for a large mechanical contractor, and 14 years experience as a Project Manager at the University of Utah. In addition, he was an adjunct professor and taught HVAC Mechanical Engineering classes to undergraduate and graduate students for four years at the University. And for a period while there, he reviewed all of the mechanical plans for all of the new and remodeled construction that occurred at the University of Utah.

Nikki Whiting

Mrs. Whiting has been a reviewer for the Nigro Firm since January 2006 and has been an indispensable player on many of the projects reviewed since then.

Mrs. Whiting brings a unique perspective to our team… she’s comfortable both out in the field making measurements and sitting in front of a computer converting data into AutoCAD files. She is knowledgeable in the techniques for planning and conducting boundary and route surveys as well as being proficient in the use of AutoCAD for both 2D and 3D drawings.

Surveying (3 years)

In addition to working with the Nigro Firm, Mrs. Whiting works for the Forest Service as a Surveying Technician. Her duties include determining land ownership boundaries for the Forest Service.

Also, for 2 years, Mrs. Whiting was a Survey Assistant for Mr. Merrill Cazier, a Certified Contractor/Surveyor in Utah and Idaho. In this capacity, she collected field data and then converted it into a Legal Description and official drawing(s) to be filed with the county. The field data collection included point and property line/boundary information… precisely measuring distances, elevations, station corners, etc. via GPS, radio link, and other measuring devices and methods.

Ms. Whiting is comfortable with the principles of effective graphical display of spatial information, preparation of sketches, scaled drawings, survey plats and maps, interpretation of features on three-dimensional drawings, principles of cartography and map projections, computer mapping, and use of overlays.

AutoCAD & Drafting Experience (6 years)

Nigro Firm: blueprint drawing with rolled up drawing on topIn addition to using her AutoCAD experience in surveying applications, she also worked for subcontractors for AT&T and directly with Qwest to create “as-built” drawings of fiber optic cable lines. In these endeavors, she was in the field performing “walk-out maps” (collecting measurements and other data for maps), converting the data into 2D maps, and engaging in the rigors of Auto LISP programming.

Ms. Whiting has also spent a number of years as an independent AutoCAD consultant. Some of the interesting projects she completed were 2D drafting & 3D renderings for a Chamber of Commerce project to adapt office space to meet ADA compliance; a remodel of vehicle storage systems; a new greenhouse; and new product development and designs for a non-profit organization.
